Welcome to the Johnston County Amateur Radio Emergency Services page!

Amateur Radio Emergency Services (or ARES) provides emergency communications during disasters and other crises.  The Johnston County ARES chapter provides services to Johnston County, North Carolina.  Johnston County ARES is comprised of FCC licensed Amateur Radio operators from Johnston and surrounding counties.  Any FCC licensed Amateur Radio operator possessing a Technician Class License or above may apply for membership.

Johnston County Amateur Radio Emergency Service holds a monthly training/informational net on 147.270+ with no tone.

This net takes place on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7 pm.

This net is open to any licensed amateur that wants to listen and all are encouraged to participate.

Our nets provide information that is not only applicable to ARES but, to all amateur radio operators.

Johnston County ARES utilizes Winlink on VHF/UHF to communicate between the EOC and the various shelters.
